News and Political Action

PSAC in the news
  • Robyn Benson was on the radio in Ottawa last week, talking about PSAC's recent agreement with Treasury Board on the establishment of a joint task force on mental health. Listen in.

Young Worker's Survey
  • We want to hear from PSAC members in British Columbia who are 30 years of age or younger. The PSAC BC Young Worker's Caucus has developed a survey to get input from members on a range of topics, help shape our programs in the future, and identify people who are interested in increasing their involvement with the Union and our Young Workers Committees. If you're 30 years of age or younger, take the survey here. If you work with someone under 30, forward them the link!
Health and Safety
  • PSAC BC joins United Steelworkers, families and injured workers, and concerned citizens in calling for a public inquiry into Babine Forest Products and Lakeland Mills sawmill explosions. We encourage all PSAC members to visit usw.ca and sign the petition telling Christy Clark to honour her commitment to call for a public inquiry into the Babine and Lakeland sawmill explosions.
  • Across Canada, April 28 has been designated the Day of Mourning. Every year workers, families, employers, and others come together at ceremonies held around the province to remember those who have lost their lives to work-related incidents or occupational disease, and re–new our commitment to creating safe workplaces. More information and a list of events here.

Bargaining Solidarity!
  • PSAC members across BC organized bargaining solidarity events in March - there some photos and a report from the TB and CRA days of action at the regional website, and more at our facebook page. Collectively we have a lot of strength. Join with members across the country and support all our teams. Find out how.

Bargaining
  • Treasury Board - PSAC is very pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with Treasury Board on the establishment of a joint task force on mental health.
  • Canada Revenue Agency - the bargaining team met with the Agency in mediation over three days last week. Both parties are reconvening in May. All CRA updates.
  • Parks - the Team met with the Parks Canada Agency on February 24, 25 and 26. They said NO to all concessions. We will keep you informed.
  • SSO - the SSO arbitration decision released last month was a significant victory. Finally, after three-and-a-half years, we received the arbitration awards for  interviewers (belonging to the RO and FI classifications) who conduct surveys for Statistics Canada. Read more here.
  • CFIA - PSAC members at CFIA gathered in Ottawa from January 26-28, 2015 for our National Bargaining Conference and are ready to stand strong in negotiations. We are still waiting to hear from CFIA about initial dates.
