PSAC in the news

  • The Phoenix pay fiasco affecting federal government employees was largely the result of a bureaucratic culture of avoiding responsibility that will require closer political oversight before launching similarly complex projects in the future, says a Senate study of the Phoenix pay system. Chris Aylward, responding to the Senate report on Phoenix, is quoted at ctv.ca.

  • The federal Liberals are considering some sort of "tiered" compensation for the Phoenix pay system where every public servant gets something for the stress its problems have caused, says a government source. Story at cbc.ca

Treasury Board bargaining: Send a message to your MP

  • After two years of hardships under Phoenix, federal public service workers continue to show up to work every day and deliver the services Canadians depend on. The government has to come to the bargaining table ready to negotiate a deal that reflects their incredible commitment and the value of their work. Send an email to your MP today.

2018 PSAC B.C. Regional Young Workers' Summit
  • The 2018 PSAC B.C. Regional Young Workers’ Summit  will be held November 24 - 25 at the Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver under the theme Shaping Our Future Now. The objectives of the Young Workers’ Summit are
to gather PSAC Young Workers in B.C. to learn more about their union; to provide an opportunity to hear from, share experiences and challenges with those in leadership positions; to gain skills and tools on how to effect change in our political landscape; and to challenge participants to develop their own political action skills and empower them to bring these skills to their respective Young Worker Committees.

  • PSAC members in good standing and who self-identify as a young worker (35 years or younger), are encouraged to apply to attend - more information and registration here

  • Treasury Board (PA, TC, SV & EB): The teams met with the employer in mid-July. Unfortunately, the employer was only prepared to offer their first impressions of PSAC’s non-monetary proposals. Here's the update. Please take a moment to email your MP and ask them to call on the PM to mandate Treasury Board to negotiate a fair deal, without unnecessary delays.

  • Canadian Food Inspection Agency: The CFIA National Bargaining Conference will take place October 2-4, 2018 in Ottawa. The participation of all groups in collective bargaining is critical and we encourage equity group members, young workers and RWC members working at CFIA to consider participating in the Conference - more information here.

  • Prince Rupert Airport: The Prince Rupert Airport bargaining team are pleased to announce that a tentative agreement for PSAC/UCTE members working at the airport authority has been achieved. A ratification meeting is being scheduled. Contact your Local Executive for more information.

  • NAV CANADA: Our bargaining team met with the employer July 3 – 6 in Ottawa to continue negotiations. Despite the progress that was made during the last set of meetings, the employer was unwilling to agree on key proposals that would give NAV CANADA members parity with similar workers in the civil aviation industry. Read more at the national website.
