  • Vancouver workers mark public service week with Phoenix pay system protest. 'We’d rather have a paycheck, not a hot dog,' says union leader. CBC covers our National Public Service Week rally in Vancouver. (check out the photos at the link further down).
     
  • Trudeau kicks off public service week promising to fix Phoenix, but union boycotts and demands ‘day’s pay for a day’s work’. Robyn Benson is quoted at ipolitics.ca
     
  • Unions in Canada have warned the country’s prime minister Justin Trudeau that a “worrisome” trend of private sector outsourcing at the Department of National Defence could compromise national security. Global Gov't Forum reports on our ongoing campaign against privatization.
     
  • When I interviewed Alexandre Blackburn about his experience trying to get paid by the federal government, most of the questions that came in from listeners were, “is this story for real?” PSAC members continue to speak out about the effects of the Phoenix pay system. Story at globalnews.ca.

Regional Convention
  • Over 180 delegates, observers, and guests gathered at the PSAC BC Regional Convention which took place June 16,17,18 in Vancouver. A full convention report will be available soon, in the meantime here is a wrap up at the regional website.

Rally for Respect
  • Federal public service workers and allies rallied in Vancouver on the last day of National Public Service Week to call on the government to fix the Phoenix pay system and bargain fairly with our federal government workers who don't have a contract yet. Photos and a wrap up at Facebook.
Tools for Locals and Activists
  • The newly updated Shop Steward Tool Kit is now available for download here. It provides a solid foundation to help Stewards with the invaluable work they perform every day on behalf of PSAC members. Download it today!
 
Bargaining Updates
  • PA, TC, SV and EB: Treasury Board finally signed the new collective agreements on June 14. The employer now has 150 days from the date of signing to adjust rates of pay and issue retroactive pay.
  • FB (CBSA): Three years without a contract. FB group members will be taking a message to MPs this summer. More at the national website.
  • CFIA: Our bargaining team met with the employer in Ottawa from June 20 to 22 and made some progress, however concessions are still on the table. The national website has an update.
  • Parks: Negotiations are scheduled for next week, July 11-13. Watch for an update.
  • Canada Post: Negotiations are scheduled for July 25-27. We'll keep you up to date.
  • SSO: PSAC has filed an unfair labour practice complaint with the Public Service Labour and Employment Relations Board due to the employer’s ongoing refusal to allow the union to post bargaining updates in the workplace. Read the update at the national website.
  • CRA: The bargaining team was unable to reach an agreement on the wage re-opener. More information here.
  • Granville Island: The bargaining team has dates scheduled with the employer in September, contact your Local Executive for more information.
  • IMP Comox: The arbitration process is moving forward. Contact your Local Executive for more information.
  • First Nations Health Authority - The bargaining team has been elected and input from members received: we look forward to beginning our second round of bargaining with FNHA.
  • Commissionaires -  Our next meeting with the Corps will be at the end of July. Visit the website for an update or contact your Local Executive for more information.
  • ARINC - The last scheduled bargaining meeting was cancelled by the employer. Contact your Local Executive for updates.
  • North Peace Airport - We have served the employer with notice to bargain.

- Celebrate your union pride with the PSAC BC Vancouver Island Human Rights Committee and the Victoria Labour Council at the Victoria pride parade, beginning at noon. More info here and RSVP at Facebook.

PSAC at Fusion Festival, July 22 & 23 in Surrey - As we've done over the past few years, PSAC BC will be hosting info booths at community events across the province over the summer.  We'll be raising the profile of our union, talking to the public and other PSAC members about our work as federal public sector workers and various PSAC campaigns.
