News and Political Action

• PSAC is formally requesting a federal public inquiry into what went wrong with the now $1 billion Phoenix pay project in the wake of a scathing report by Canada's auditor general. Chris Aylward is quoted at cbc.ca.
   
• PSAC intends to make the Trudeau government pay for more than two years of Phoenix and its pay foul-ups. More at ipolitics.ca.
   
• Chris spoke to 1310 News radio in Ottawa about the upcoming round of Treasury Board bargaining and the ongoing problems with the Phoenix pay system. Here's the clip.
   
• Many federal employees in the Fraser Valley are still out thousands of dollars as a result of the disastrous Phoenix pay system that has overpaid, underpaid and generally muddled the paycheques of thousands of government workers across the country. Kirsty Havard, USJE Regional Vice-President for Corrections, BC is quoted in the Agassiz Observer.
   
• Federal employee Sophie Splawinski spoke to CTV national news, saying it 'will take years' for her credit score to recover after problems with the Phoenix pay system. Here's the clip.

• National Public Service Week will take place this year from June 10 to 16. This year PSAC has chosen not to boycott the Employer’s events, but instead use those events to highlight the ongoing pay problems by the Phoenix pay system. We have stickers and other materials members can use to send the employer a message: it's time to address the undue hardships caused by the Phoenix pay system and compensate federal government workers. Contact your PSAC Regional Office to get some for your Local or worksite.

Municipal / Local Government Elections

• The next general local elections in British Columbia are on October 20, 2018. We have heard from several PSAC members who are planning to run for office and are happy to see members getting involved in politics and the community.
   
• If you are a PSAC member planning to run in the election please let us know. We also encourage you to seek the endorsement of your local Labour Council, for more information contact the REVP Office.

PSAC Scholarships

• Reminder! PSAC offers 14 scholarships for dependent children of PSAC members and three scholarships for PSAC members who will be attending university, college or a recognized institute of higher learning on a full-time basis during the 2018-2019 academic year. Applications are now open and close June 29.

• PSAC BC, along with the BC Federation of Labour and many of its affiliates, help sponsor the BC Lions Be More Than A Bystander campaign. As a thank you for our sponsorship agreement, the BC Lions have provided us with a number of tickets to upcoming games which we are making available to members in a draw. More info and the entry form.

• You have the right to be paid correctly and on-time and, if you are not, you have the right to file a grievance. Filing a grievance is an important procedural step that protects your right to have the dispute resolved by the Federal Public Service Labour Relations and Employment Board. It also means the employer must meet with you and your union representative. Read more at the national website.
   

• Canada Border Services Agency (FB): The collective agreement has been ratified. Congratulations to the thousands of PSAC/CIU members at CBSA that took action to help make our new agreement happen.  More information here.
   
• Statistical Survey Operations: Our bargaining team met with the employer from May 3 to 10 and things are moving forward. Read the update at the national website.
   
• Canada Revenue Agency: Our negotiating team is in place and the first set of dates is scheduled for the week of June 18. Read the update here.
   
• Treasury Board (PA, TC, SV & EB): Bargaining is officially underway. The four teams met with the employer last week in Ottawa. Here's an update.
   
• IMP Group, Comox: A decision from the arbitrator is expected very soon. Contact your Local Executive for more information.
   
• First Nations Health Authority: The next meeting with the employer is scheduled for July 9. Here's an update on negotiations to date.
   
• North Peace Airport: Bargaining is underway. Contact your Local Executive for more information.
   
• Purolator: The Purolator team met with the employer May 24 and 25 - watch for an update soon.
   
• Prince Rupert Airport: The Union and the Employer were unable to meet in April and will now be meeting in July. Contact your Local Executive for more information.
   
• NAV CANADA: Steady progress is being made at NAV CAN bargaining table, read the update at the national website.

Union Education

The winter/spring weekend course schedule is complete, watch for the full fall schedule coming soon.
