Native Women's Association of Canada Sisters In Spirit Vigils - October 4th, 2012

Posted on behalf of Heather DuDoward, PSAC-BC Regional Council - Aboriginal Equity Coordinator

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

October 4th is a day when we honour the lives of missing and murdered Aboriginal women and girls and support families who have been tragically touched by the loss of a loved one to violence. The Native Women's Association of Canada (NWAC) recently announced that the Sisters In Spirit (SIS) Vigil movement has surpassed more than 110 vigils from coast-to coast-to coast for October 4th 2012. NWAC is pleased to say that the number is now 129 SIS Vigils and registrations are still coming in every day. No other event in Canada brings so many Aboriginal communities and Canadian citizens together to specifically celebrate, honour and support Aboriginal women and girls.

You are encouraged to attend a SIS Vigil nearest you on October 4th. A complete listing of SIS Vigils across the country can be found at http://www.nwac.ca/programs/2012-vigil-locations

NWAC also asks that you take some time today to visit Canada’s first virtual candlelight vigil for our missing and murdered Aboriginal sisters. The site is www.October4th.ca and was made possible by generous donations. Come light a candle and leave a dedication. You are also welcome to spread-the-word of the virtual site to your members.

In solidarity,

Heather DuDoward, Aboriginal Equity Coordinator, PSAC BC Regional Council
