The Federal Court of Appeal has ruled in favour of the right of adjudicators to rule on cases of termination resulting from revocation of reliability status.

PSAC has filed an unfair labour practice complaint with the Public Service Labour and Employment Relations Board due to the employer’s ongoing refusal to allow the union to post bargaining updates in the workplace. Such refusal violates our legal right to share information with our members about bargaining and interferes in the work we do to represent you, our members. We have asked the labour board to ensure SSO immediately cease and desist from preventing employees from engaging in these lawful union activities.

The latest update on Phoenix, shows a large remaining backlog of cases. Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) provided the latest information on the public service pay system in a media teleconference on June 2. “We are not surprised,” said Robyn Benson, PSAC National President. “It’s been almost 18 months since the government launched Phoenix and it feels like we are nowhere near the end of this mess.”

Our bargaining team met with SSO during the week of May 1. The team started the week in caucus, where we had planned to review SSO’s proposals, but unfortunately the documents provided by our employer contained many errors and lacked clarity. This made it impossible for us to do our work of analyzing their proposal

The latest annual report on the federal public service notes the failure of the Phoenix pay system as one of the biggest challenges that faced the public service last year.

The federal government has announced a new plan to deal with the failed Phoenix pay system. The plan includes a new task force of senior ministers in the government.  “Our members have been dealing with the consequences of the Phoenix debacle for over a year. What they need is more concrete action on the government’s part,” said Robyn Benson, PSAC National President. “This government has even given up on setting a target date to fix Phoenix.”
