From September 13-15, 2019, ~50 women from across the province gathered at the PSAC BC Regional Women’s Conference.
On Friday, delegates heard from Debra Sparrow, Indigenous Representative from the Musqueam Nation, received greetings from PSAC regional executive vice president Jamey Mills, shared an intimate dinner and discussion with Magali Picard, PSAC national executive vice president and participated in a workshop designed to gather input on the Gender Equity Taskforce that PSAC is currently embarking upon.
Saturday brought women together into workshops on building women’s power and leadership.
On Sunday, the delegates - wearing red in honour of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls - took part in a member-initiated and spontaneous action when Andrew Scheer’s campaign van was spotted in the hotel parking lot. Armed with “I support my bargaining team” signs members effectively surrounded the van while chanting "Solidarity!" until it slowly backed out of the lot.
Sunday also formally included a debate and ratification of the resolutions that will be submitted to the PSAC National Women’s Conference.
Many thanks and kudos to the Conference Organizing Committee: Kelly Sidhu, PSAC BC Regional Council Women’s Coordinator, Amrit Sihota, Linda Woods, Nancy Sermons, Tracy Arrowsmith and Kelly Megyesi for their hard work and dedication.
Truly a weekend of Empowerment and Action! Here are some photos.
