Union of Solicitor General Employees Local 20011 (RCMP) was one of the first Locals in BC to take our We Are All Affected campaigner training. The Local Executive members then decided to host a table at the new E Division Headquarters building in Surrey during National Public Services week. The Local's display and information on our PSAC member-to-member campaign appears to have been more popular than the employer's offering! Thanks to all the USGE members who participated and to Local VP Krystal Rowell for this report and photos.
Our event was held at the new RCMP E Division Headquarters building. We asked members to complete a short survey and gave them the opportunity to speak to an Executive Member or Steward about PSAC's We Are All Affected member-to-member campaign and sign a pledge card. We had our table set up by about 10:10am and it was going strong by 10:40.
The employer was selling tickets to their "Public Service Week BBQ" right beside us. We noticed that, at about 11am, the Employer's table for the BBQ tickets had been abandoned by the ticket sellers. Because the table was abandoned, our members were completing our Local's surveys and filling our pledge cards on the Employers table!
There was fairly steady stream of Local 20011 members at our table all day and we also had the opportunity to talk to Brothers and Sisters from other Unions and Locals - we didn't ask them to take the survey, but we did share our cake with them.
