• Changes to ‘right to refuse unsafe work’ in the federal sector take effect - The new definition of ‘danger’ and other harmful changes to Canada Labour Code rules on health and safety brought about in Bill C-4 came into effect Oct. 31, 2014. More information.

Bargaining

• Treasury Board - The teams spent the week of November 18 in negotiations with Treasury Board, seeking to improve workplace conditions on behalf of more than 100,000 of our members. In doing so, we put forward proposals that would both protect workers strengthen public services for all Canadians. Details at the national website.

• Canada Revenue Agency - The Public Interest Commission (PIC) has released recommendations and our team is at the table this week. Watch for updates.
• Nav Canada - The tentative agreement has been ratified.
• Parks updates at the national website
• SSO members at SSO participated in bargaining solidarity events across the country in November and await a federal court decision.  Bargaining updates at the national site.
• CFIA the bargaining input call is out, check with your Local for details. The CFIA Bargaining Conference has been scheduled for January 2015. Here is the call for equity activists, women and young worker delegates.

Meetings and Events

December 3rd is International Day for Persons With Disabilities - With the cuts to public services there is even less support and resources for people with disabilities. Read the PSAC statement.

December 6th is National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women





PSAC is helping organize two vigils on Dec 6 - Holland Park in Surrey at 4:30PM and Holland Park in Victoria at 4PM and others are scheduled throughout the province. We encourage you to attend a vigil in your community.

Festive Meet and Greet - the Victoria Area Council, Vancouver Island Human Rights Committee, Victoria Regional Women’s Committee, Vancouver Island Young Workers Committee and the South Vancouver Island Regional Council Coordinators all invite you to a Festive Meet & Greet on December 9th at the Victoria Office. Details.
