On November 26, 2020 the PSAC Education and PSAC Social Justice Fund presented the webinar “Worker Solidarity in Action: Stories from Guatemala”. During this webinar, participants got to learn about the PSAC Social Justice Fund and what members are doing to advance social justice at home and around the globe, the connection between injustices in Canada and Guatemala, and why Worker education and exchanges are essential to promoting solidarity amongst workers globally.

The Public Service Alliance of Canada BC Region stands in solidarity with farmers, labour activists and workers in India who continue their peaceful protest against new agricultural laws.  The proposed laws will deregulate agricultural markets and will effectively undermine the livelihoods of Indian farmers, opening them up to exploitation by large corporations.   With the majority of India’s population relying on agriculture as their main source of livelihood, the impact of these changes to Indian workers will be devastating.

Todd Smith is a PSAC member from BC who travelled to Guatemala in March 2020 as part of the PSAC Social Justice Fund's Education In Action delegation. Along with ten other PSAC members from across the country, Todd was there to learn more about the culture and some of the struggles Mayan people face daily and build solidarity between Canada and indigenous communities in Guatemala. http://youtu.be/V7TgCqUzq3g More about the Comité Campesino del Altiplano (CCDA)

The PSAC Social Justice Fund invites your members to participate in the next “Education In Action” project in Guatemala for 2 weeks in spring 2020. Education In Action is supported by the PSAC Social Justice Fund to engage members and other Canadians to deepen their understanding of Guatemala and to build solidarity with Mayan communities in Guatemala.

PSAC Social Justice Fund invites members to participate in the next “Education In Action” project in Guatemala for 2 weeks in March 2019. Education In Action is supported by the PSAC Social Justice Fund to engage members and other Canadians to deepen their understanding of Guatemala and to build solidarity with Mayan communities in Guatemala. The PSAC Social Justice Fund is offering a sponsorship to four Young Workers for the 2019 delegation. More information is provided about the project in the invitation below.
