BC Regional Council member Crystal Warner was thrilled to participate this year as an awards committee member to help determine the winners of this years United Way of the Lower Mainland (UWLM) Spirit Awards.
Pictured above with the UWLM Board of Directors Chair, and Director of District 3 United Steelworkers Union, Steve Hunt, Amber Hockin of the Canadian Labour Congress, and Mervyn Van Steinburg, UWLM Labour Participation Department, Crystal and other labour and community activists got to hear directly from people in our community about the impact of our members donations.
Margaret Anteros was one of the Keynote Speakers at the 2015 UWLM Spirit Awards. Margaret is a grade 12 student at Bryne Creek Community Secondary School in Burnaby. Having arrived to Canada as a refugee, she shared with the audience at the Spirit Awards how she has benefitted over the years from numerous UWLM programs, including lunch programs and community schools. Today, Margaret pays it forward by volunteering extensively and believes that everyone is a hero who can save the world, exemplifying in every way the United Way’s motto of #WeArePossibility.
PSAC is proud of our partnership with the United Way, and we encourage our members to participate, and give generously, so members of our community can become heroes, like Margaret.
