At their meeting held over the weekend, the PSAC BC Regional Council joined many other groups in endorsing the campaign calling for the elimination of pay parking at BC hospitals. Pay parking brings relatively minimal funding into the medical system, but creates a barrier to accessing medical care and places unnecessary stress on patients and their loved ones. The theme for this year’s March On Vancouver is Resist! Persist! This is the third year that people of all backgrounds have come together to march to empower, inspire, unite and lead the charge for advancement of women across Canada and the world. As we have done in the past, the Public Service Alliance of Canada is participating in the Stronger Communities Together campaign, which is coordinated by the Canadian Labour Congress and affiliated unions.

Federal public service workers are showing up every day to deliver crucial services we all depend on—even though they stopped getting paid properly. Over 200,000 workers and their families are still suffering financial and emotional fallout from the Phoenix pay system disaster.

CIU/PSAC members rallied near the PAC Highway border crossing on February 14, calling on the government to show Border Services personnel some love, treat them as law enforcement, and give them a fair contract. These men and women have been without a contract for over three and a half years – they protect Canadians every day, and deserve fair treatment.
