Members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada’s Victoria Regional Womens’ Committee have been working on a plan to erect a memorial to the victims of the École Polytechnique Massacre.The Montreal Massacre, as it is also known, resulted in the deaths of 14 women on Dec. 6,1989. The anniversary of this tragic event is commemorated every year in Canada as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.

VICTORIA- The Public Service Alliance of Canada Victoria Regional Women's Committee is sponsoring a candlelight vigil in Victoria on December 6th, the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Canada.Members of the public will gather to reflect on violence against women, call upon the federal government to announce a national action plan to deal with all forms of violence against women, and collect donations for local women's organizations.

You can send Stephen Harper a message by voting in the Victoria Federal By-Election on Monday November 26.   The 2012 budget brought in by the Harper government will cut $5.2 billion out of the federal government's operating budget over the next three years. These budget cuts are bad for PSAC members and bad for the Canadians that depend on the services we provide.

On Saturday, September 15the PSAC members across the country demonstrated their support for public services and talked about how federal cuts are affecting all Canadians. Here in BC we hosted events in Vancouver, Surrey, Abbotsford, Victoria, Nanaimo, Campbell River, Prince George, and Naramata. Members hosted booths, rallied for public services, spoke to members of their community, and heard from local politicians across the province.

Along with local labour groups and politicians, members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada, Canada’s largest federal public sector union, will rally and speak out against federal government cuts at a family-friendly event in Central Park, Victoria.As part of a National Day of Action, held across the country, members of PSAC will be talking to the public about the impact federal cuts have on services Canadians rely on.

BC Government workers across the province will hold a one day strike on Wednesday September 5. Next week, approximately 27,000 BC Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU), Professional Employees Association (PEA) and Canadian Office & Professional Employees Union (COPE) Local 378 members who work for the BC government will go on strike in 153 communities and 1785 government worksites across B.C. The strike will last all day.
