British Columbians voted for change

Sisters and Brothers,

Like many of you, I stayed up late last night watching for the results and cheering the candidates on.

While the outcome of our provincial election may not make itself clear for some time, one thing is clear: the majority of British Columbians voted for change.

Regardless of what happens in the upcoming days, I am confident that BC is moving in a better direction. We all should be proud of the role PSAC members played in building a better BC.

I’d like to thank all the PSAC members that got involved in the election: volunteering to help their chosen candidate, attending rallies and events, participating in our telephone town hall, talking to friends and neighbors about the issues, getting involved in the BC Federation of Labour’s Better BC campaign, and taking time to vote.

I’d like to specially thank and congratulate three PSAC Sisters who stood up for what they believe in and ran for office.

Bowinn Ma, a PSAC member who works at Vancouver Airport, was elected MLA for North Vancouver-Lonsdale and Janet Routledge, a former member and PSAC staff person, was elected in Burnaby North. I know both these new MLAs will be strong voices in the Legislature for their constituents. We look forward to working with them as they work to make our province a better place for all of us. Sargy Chima, a member working at Service Canada, was unsuccessful in her campaign in Surrey-Whalley and I commend her energy and her effort.

Our democracy and our province is stronger because of all of you.
