International Womens Day events in Abbotsford - Memory March, Shoe Memorial and Vigil

Saturday, March 24th  “The Vagina Monologues” at 7:30 PMat Matsqui Centennial Auditorium, 32315 South Fraser Way, Abbotsford

This year, Art Matter’s will produce “The Vagina Monologues” to raise money for future shoe memorials, the memory march, walk4 justice and the Warm Zone. 10% of proceeds will go to the women and girls in Haiti. Tickets are $20/person

Sunday, March 25th

Activities: (noon-2 PM)

  • Display of names of over 4000 murdered women and children
  • Shoes for donation will be given in the names of some of BC’s murdered women.

1 PM- Opening Ceremony:  

  • Guest speaker:  Gladys Radek from walk4justice will speak about the upcoming walk along The Highway of Tears. In the circle of the Shoe Memorial, participants will honour the women and girls we have lost to violence.
  • Shoe Memorial at CivicPlaza(or Thunderbird Plaza-behind the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium/next to the Reach Art Gallery & Museum)
  • Silent walk and ceremony in remembrance of murdered and missing women in Canadafor the last 5 years-this year no walk, we are doing the Shoe Memorial instead.

This year the Shoe Memorial will honour BC women killed with a collection of shoes and clothes to be donated to The Warm Zone (Abbotsford) and the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre.

Please donate  new or slightly used pairs of like-new shoes  (or clothes)

Support us by buying tickets to the Vagina Monologues and with a donation of shoes, you only pay $15. You can rent a table at TVM. Cost $50 including a ticket to the show and credit for being a sponsor in the program.
