FREE KDocs Event - Girl Unbound - January 26th, 4:30pm
KDocs's next FREE on-campus event is a screening of the documentary Girl Unbound. The event includes a panel discussion/Q&A after the film and a Keynote Address by writer, public speaker, and sports activist Shireen Ahmed.

Shireen Ahmed is a writer, public speaker, and sports activist focusing on Muslim women in sports, and the intersections of racism and misogyny in sport. She is an athlete, advocate, and community organizer, and she works with Youth of Colour on empowerment projects and is an avid sports coach and mentor. She is a regular contributor to Muslimah Media Watch and a former Global Sports Correspondent for the Safe World for Women and Muslim Women in Sports websites. She has lectured and presented her work at a number of post-secondary institutions in Canada and the United States.
Shireen’s work has been featured and discussed in The Guardian, Teen Vogue, FanSided, Sports Illustrated, Racialicious, The Shadow League, Mic, Jezebel, VICE Sports, The Establishment, Bitch Media, Islamic Monthly, Soccer Politics/The Politics of Football, A Football Report, The Shadow League, Huffington Post, Football Beyond Borders, Chatelaine, The National Post, International Museum of Women, Best Health Magazine, Aquila Style, Muslim Voices, Women Talk Sports, Footynions, espnW, the Globe and Mail, Media Diversified, Today’s Parent, Women’s Sport Trust (UK), and Edge of Sports Radio.
Shireen’s piece on rape apologia by Muslim basketball fans was published in Best Canadian Sports Writing 2017, and her column “Moving the Chains” is the most widely read series at ProDay Media.
Shireen is part of the team of five women who create the weekly Burn It All Down podcast, the first feminist sports podcast that analyzes sports culture from an intersectional feminist lens.
Shireen’s blog “Tales from a Hijabi Footballer,” where her passions for sport, politics, and women’s issues collide, has been recognized by Sports Media for its candid discussions.
Shireen is currently working on her first book and drinks a lot of coffee. Shireen lives in Mississauga, Canada with her family and her amazing cat, Sitara.
