2014 Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign
Dear Sisters and Brothers:
The 2014 Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC) kickoff is just around the corner.
PSAC members in the B.C. Region have a long-standing history of supporting the GCWCC. Moreover, the success of the campaigns has rested largely on the contributions and involvement of our members. Together, we have helped improve the quality of life for individuals and families across the province by contributing to the United Way and other registered Canadian charities.
Last year a concerted effort was made to bring greater attention to our union members who lead and support the GCWCC. As a result, members reengaged with the campaign and we received positive feedback from the community. In fact, the PSAC B.C. Region was honoured with the 2013 Labour Award of Distinction form the United Way of the Lower Mainland. In addition, PSAC members on Vancouver Island received a number of recognitions from the United Way of Greater Victoria: GSU Locals on Vancouver Island received a nomination for the Labour Participation award, UEW with National Resources Canada – Pacific Forestry Centre won the Naden Band Sprit of Excellence award, and UNDE with the Department of National Defense won the ‘Half Million Dollar Award.’
This year we are again faced with an increasing number of people who need the help of various organizations funded the by the GCWCC. I encourage all members to give generously to the 2014 Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign.
As public service workers and concerned citizens, we all know that when people care about those around them, the result is a stronger community. By supporting the GCWCC across the Region we can make our communities better place to work and live. Now more than ever, we need to make this campaign a success.
In solidarity,
Bob Jackson - Regional Executive Vice-President, B.C. Region
