April 28 is the Day of Mourning for workers killed or injured on the job

In addition to remembering the almost 200 BC workers that died because of work-related injuries and illnesses last year, the Day of Mourning is a call to action. The grave impact of COVID-19 on PSAC members and workers across Canada strengthens our resolve and fight for safe and healthy conditions in the workplace.

In person ceremonies will not take place this year. The PSAC BC Regional Health & Safety Committee has created a Facebook profile frame that members and the public can use to recognize the day, and remember those we have lost.

The Health & Safety Committee members also encourage you to attend this virtual ceremony on April 28 at 10:30 AM, organized by the BC Federation of Labour, the Vancouver and District Labour Council, and WorkSafeBC.

On April 28, we mourn the dead and fight for the living. That means we recommit to our efforts to protect the safety and well-being of working people by: 

• Improving workplace health and safety; 
• Rigorously enforcing occupational health and safety regulations – and holding those who violate them to account;
• Preserving the dignity of the thousands of workers who suffer injury or illness; and 
• Ensuring full compensation to those who have been hurt at work. 

Together, we'll do all we can to reach the goal we know everyone in our union shares: a province where every worker can go home safe and healthy at the end of every workday.
