PSAC BC Region Education Subsidies for the Summer Institute for Union Women2019

Summer Institute for Union Women, July 2-6, 2019

The PSAC BC Education Program is pleased to offer five $500 education subsidies to PSAC BC women members who are registering for the Western Region Summer Institute for Union Women (SIUW) being hosted by the BC Federation of Labour on July 2-6, 2019 at UBC in Vancouver.

The theme is “Equity. Justice. Reconcili-action: Building worker power through Intersectional feminism and activism."

The deadline for receipt of your subsidy application for the Western Region SIUW is 12:00 noon on Thursday, May 9th, 2019.

BC Federation of Labour Marianne Gilbert Scholarship

In 1991, the BC Federation of Labour established a scholarship to cover the costs for one labour woman from British Columbia to attend the Summer Institute for Union Women. This year the BC Fed is offering three (3) scholarships which will cover tuition, shared accommodations and meals for this event, which will run from July 2-6, 2019 at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Any and all other expenses (including travel and wage loss) will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.

Applicants must write a letter outlining their union activities and must briefly describe what they hope to learn from the school, and how the experience will assist in their work, in their union or in the broader labour movement. Applicants must also submit a letter of recommendation from their union. Applications for the scholarship can be emailed to Kate McGrath at kmcgrath@bcfed.ca.

The deadline for applications for the BC Federation of Labour Marianne Gilbert Scholarship is May 17, 2019. All applicants will be evaluated and the scholarship will be awarded by June 3, 2019. When applying for the scholarship, applicants are asked to please keep the July 2-6, 2019 dates in mind to ensure that if chosen, they will be available to accept. Please include a telephone number and email address so that you can be notified quickly of the decision.
