Seasons Greetings and Solidarity: a message from REVP Jamey Mills

On behalf of the all the staff in the PSAC BC Region and the PSAC BC Regional Council, I wish you and your families a happy and safe holiday season.
2020 has not been an easy year. The pandemic has touched every part of our lives in many profound ways and will continue to do so for some time. Thankfully, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, but we must all continue to do our part to stop the spread of the virus.
Looking back at the year I want to thank and acknowledge all the members across BC who have worked hard – sometimes under exceedingly difficult circumstances – to help keep the country going in so many different ways.
All of you have all truly been there when people needed you – thank you!
Despite the pandemic, our work as a union continued on last year: successfully negotiating or renewing collective agreements for many members in the federal and provincial sectors; securing a fair Phoenix damages settlement for those who were impacted by it; enforcing workplace health and safety regulations and pushing employers to do more to keep us physically safe and mentally healthy; organizing new members and growing our union; fighting racism and intolerance; and pushing forward, pressing government at all levels do more to ensure that the recovery doesn’t leave anyone behind.
None of this would have been possible without your energy, your activism, and your solidarity.
Looking forward to 2021, we will continue to focus on these issues and more. There are still PSAC members who need new contracts, there will be workplace challenges to confront, and new issues will emerge in our communities that we will take on together.
I look forward to being able meet with members in person again – to hear and learn from you as we work towards fair collective agreements for all our members, we strive to improve our working lives, and as we work on campaigns that will make our communities better places to live.
Take care, stay safe, and enjoy some down-time – it’s been a long year.
