June 21, National Aboriginal Day is once again upon us and with it comes another opportunity for everyone to give thought to the impact Aboriginal Peoples have had on the history of Canada – and also what impact history has had on Aboriginal Peoples. The solstice day was chosen not only because it is the longest of the year, but also because it is a day that First Peoples have been celebrating for thousands of years.
