On July 8th, an enthusiastic and colourful group of PSAC members in Victoria celebrated Pride and raised awareness about the discriminatory one year ban on blood donation by gay and trans people. Members of the Vancouver Island Human Rights Committee, the North Vancouver Island Area Council, REVP Jamey Mills, and Alternate REVP Todd Smith gathered in Nanaimo on June 10 to walk in the Nanaimo Pride Parade. Participants came together to celebrate Pride, Diversity and Inclusion, and handed out postcards to bring awareness to the Gay and Trans blood ban in Canada.

  On the Trans Day of Remembrance, November 20th, PSAC commemorates the trans, two-spirit and non-binary people who have lost their lives to transphobic violence. We also honour those who continue to face violence and discrimination as they work for more just and inclusive communities.

Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) has introduced a new guide to support trans employees. The new guidelines, which were developed in consultation with PSAC and other unions, are the first of their kind in the federal government. “PSAC welcomes this groundbreaking document and we hope to see a government-wide policy soon,” said Robyn Benson, PSAC National President.

May 17 is marked worldwide as the day against homophobia, transphobia and biphobia. PSAC stands in solidarity with our GLBT members against all forms of hatred and prejudice.

We are devastated by the horrendous attack that took place in Orlando over the weekend, targeting primarily queer and trans people of colour who were celebrating Pride. PSAC stands in solidarity with GLBT communities and pledges to honour the memories of 49 people who were killed by continuing  to stand up against homophobia, transphobia, racism and Islamophobia. PSAC is committed to advancing the rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people in Canada.
