The PSAC bargaining team met the employer this week to once again press your demands for improved job security language and related issues. Here's what happened:Parks Canada told us “a richness of protection” already exists in the collective agreement and we have no need for improved job security language.But Parks also asked for more time at the table to review the proposals. Without negotiating them, naturally.

As part of the fight-back activities that we all committed to at the President’s Conference in 2011 we are asking PSAC members in BC to in a National Day of Action Thursday, March 1st at lunchtime.

On Wednesday Nov 23, 2011, Parks Canada came to the table with a revised set of proposals. The package contained all their outstanding issues - including their monetary package - but none of our member’s issues.

PSAC's bargaining team used the opening session with Parks Canada, Sept. 20-22 to emphasize members concerns over contracting out, the use of contractors and volunteers and the student issue.

The PSAC won an important fight to protect union members' rights in the workplace with the Public Service Labour Relations Board's decision that the Treasury Board contravened the collective agreement, including the “No Discrimination” clause, when it prohibited members from posting campaign materials to protect their pensions.

Five years after a Parliament passed a law that was supposed to 'modernize' the federal public service and we are still waiting for a fairer staffing process and a balance between the political rights of workers and an impartial public service.
