INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATION HONOURS SHARON SHEPHERD

Former Kelowna Mayor, Sharon Shepherd, will be one of many women honoured at the International Women’s Day celebration, March 09, 5:30-9:30pm, at the Laurel Packinghouse in downtown Kelowna.

This is the launching of the Central Okanagan chapter of Soroptimist International. all proceeds from this event will be donated to the Big Sisters of the Okanagan. The mandate of the soroptomist organization is to help women and girls both locally and internationally. This ninety yr old international group is in more than 120 countries and has over 100,000 members.

The Vancouver & District Labour Council (VDLC) urges everyone to support the BCTF in their efforts to achieve a freely negotiated collective agreement. At this point it seems certain that teachers around BC will be on strike Monday, March 5th.

Join us at a community forum March 5, 2012 to discuss BC Ombudsperson Kim Carter's comprehensive recommendations for improving quality, accessibility, and accountability in BC's home and community care system.  Ms. Carter's recommendations were released February 14thas part of her second and final report on her province-wide investigation into "systemic issues" in seniors care in BC.
