Media Advisory: Federal public service workers rally in Vancouver to call on government to fix the problem-plagued Phoenix pay system.

Vancouver – On the last day of National Public Service Week, federal public service workers will gather in Vancouver to rally and call on Scott Brison, President of the Treasury Board, to make fixing the disastrous Phoenix pay system his priority.

The Phoenix payroll system used by the federal government has been riddled with problems since it was rolled out in early 2016. Tens of thousands of workers have been under-paid, paid late, or in some cases not paid at all.

“National Public Service Week is supposed to mark the importance of federal public service employees and to recognize their service to Canadians. Yet thousands of public service workers are still having financial troubles because of the Phoenix pay system.” says Robyn Benson, PSAC National President.

“It seems hollow of this government to say that it recognizes public service workers while it still can’t pay their workers correctly and on time for the vital work they do.”
