PSAC pleased to see Kitsilano Base formally opened and enhanced

The Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, formally opened the Canadian Coast Guard Kitsilano Base today, and announced that it will be expanded to include emergency environmental response and emergency response training.

“The Public Service Alliance of Canada is happy to see the Liberal government reversed the Conservative decision to close Kitsilano Base and has chosen to expand the services provided by the facility.” said Bob Jackson, Public Service Alliance of Canada Regional Executive Vice-President for BC.

“The government made the right decision by listening to community and maritime groups, elected officials, and the many Vancouverites who spoke out against the closure.” Jackson continues, “This is a victory for all who campaigned to “keep it open”. The community spoke, and the government listened.”

PSAC encourages Minister LeBlanc to continue to ensure that the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard continue to receive the funding and resources needed to provide marine services that are vital to the safety of the public and the health of our environment.
