Regional Executive VP

Jamey MiLLS

Jamey was elected as the PSAC Regional Executive Vice-President for BC in 2017. Jamey is a long time union leader who began his career as an activist as the Young Workers Coordinator on the PSAC BC Regional Council and as a member of the BC Federation of Labour Young Worker Committee, where he sat on the BC Fed Executive Council. Jamey has held a number of positions within his Local, UTE 20027 - Vancouver Tax Services Office, including Vice-President and Chief Shop Steward. He is the former President of the PSAC Vancouver Area Council, and prior to becoming the Regional Executive Vice-President he served on the PSAC BC Regional Council as Metro Vancouver Coordinator and as Alternate Regional Executive Vice-President.

As the REVP, Jamey is responsible for the following in the BC Region:

    * BC Regional Council;
    * Organizing and recertifications;
    * Education;
    * Political and social action;
    * Women's and equity programs;
    * Area Councils;
    * Directly Chartered Locals and Separate Employers;
    * Federations of Labour and related committees and District Labour Councils.

Nationally, he sits on the Alliance Executive Committee (AEC) along with the six other REVPs and the National President and Vice President. Jamey's portfolios on the AEC include Young Workers' Initiatives, the Collective Bargaining Commitee, the Environment, and CFIA and EB Group bargaining.

Greetings, The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) is currently in a difficult round of bargaining with Canada Post. After over 10 months of negotiations and despite the Union's efforts to resolve key issues, the parties are still far apart. On October 16, 2018, CUPW issued strike notice, with rotating strike action to begin on Monday morning, October 22, 2018, at 00:01 should a negotiated settlement not be achieved.

Dear PSAC member, Your vote matters! BC’s municipal and local government elections coming up on October 20th offer a chance for local residents to determine the future of their communities. As we have done in the past, the Public Service Alliance of Canada is participating in the Stronger Communities Together campaign, which is coordinated by the Canadian Labour Congress and affiliated unions.

Musqueam Territory – Vancouver, British Columbia – The First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) and Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) have celebrated the renewal of their collective agreement after several months of negotiations. The official signing ceremony to renew the FNHA PSAC collective agreement took place at the Musqueam Cultural Centre and included senior leadership and representatives from the FNHA and PSAC. All negotiations for the agreement took place on First Nations territory and incorporated Elders supporting the work with prayer, wisdom and input.

PSAC members and allies took action during the Liberal Cabinet meeting in Nanaimo on August 22nd. Approximately 150 members, along with PSAC National President Chris Aylward and Regional Executive VP Jamey Mills gathered at a rally outside the Service Canada office on Front Street, then marched to the meeting to loudly deliver an in-person message to the Justin Trudeau and his Ministers. For more than two years, over 200,000 federal public service workers have suffered because of the Phoenix pay system.

Airline pilots represented by the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) are in a difficult round of bargaining for a first-ever collective agreement with WestJet Airlines. The membership has given ALPA a strike mandate and negotiations are at a critical juncture. WestJet pilots are determined to win industry-standard compensation and working conditions. Friends, Both regionally and nationally, PSAC believes that a proportional voting system will be good for our members – and all Canadians – as it will result in more fairness and democracy when we elect our governments. Unlike the winner take all system, proportional representation gives equal value to every vote. We believe this leads to better government accountability, which is something PSAC has long advocated for.
