Regional Womens Committees

Welcome to the union!

Our Regional Women’s Committees are made up of women from many different components. We have a very open door and welcome anyone wanting to join us.

There are Regional Women’s Committees currently in the Southern Interior, Vancouver, Prince George, and Vancouver Island.

Recent changes to employment standards in BC provide job-protected, unpaid leave for people who need time away from work after facing domestic or sexual violence. Before, people escaping, recovering or rebuilding their lives had no ability to take time from their jobs to find the solutions needed to make life safer for themselves and their families unless their employer agreed to the leave.

From September 13-15, 2019, ~50 women from across the province gathered at the PSAC BC Regional Women’s Conference. On Friday, delegates heard from Debra Sparrow, Indigenous Representative from the Musqueam Nation, received greetings from PSAC regional executive vice president Jamey Mills, shared an intimate dinner and discussion with Magali Picard, PSAC national executive vice president and participated in a workshop designed to gather input on the Gender Equity Taskforce that PSAC is currently embarking upon.

BC is failing workers experiencing domestic and sexual violence, especially women. There is currently no paid leave in BC for workers facing violence. That's unacceptable. The path forward is clear: workers deserve at least 10 days of paid leave! Send a message to the provincial government today!

Accessing feminine hygiene products is challenging for low income and homeless women. Food, shelter, and clothing take precedence, leaving women with few options to deal with their periods with dignity. As a result, women often have to resort to stealing feminine hygiene products, or utilizing socks or toilet paper in lieu of sanitary pads or tampons, which leaves them more susceptible to infection.
