Sisters, Brothers, Friends,
The time to support Indigenous rights and fight for climate justice is now. Members of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation are calling on allies to stand with them in defence of the lands and waters on March 10th.
PSAC is an initiating organization of the Leap Manifesto which calls for recognition of Indigenous rights as spelled out in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). Canada’s approval of the Kinder Morgan pipeline expansion project without the consent of all the affected Indigenous peoples is in contravention of UNDRIP which Canada has adopted. The Leap Manifesto also recognizes the need to immediately divest from fossil fuels and stop the development of pipelines and other fossil-fuel extraction infrastructure. You can read the manifesto here.
The PSAC BC Regional Council recently voted to support and endorse Kwekwecnewtxw. Please join the Vancouver and District Area Council in standing with our Indigenous sisters, brothers, and friends on March 10th. More information on the Kwekwecnewtxw: Protect the Inlet project can be found here.
Please RSVP to Todd Smith at SmithT@psac-afpc.com. Friends and family are encouraged to join.
This is a peaceful, non-violent mass mobilization project that is “first and foremost a place of Indigenous spirit, culture, and title and will be given the respect of sacred ceremony.”
Let’s take this opportunity to put our commitment to the Leap Manifesto into action and stand up for the climate, our coast, and Indigenous rights.
In Solidarity,
Todd Smith, President, Vancouver and District Area Council
