Fellow members of Local 20500, Given the current situation and the uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, I want to assure you that your Union is doing everything possible to stay on top of the latest information as it becomes available to us. The situation is very fluid and is certainly uncharted territory for everyone concerned.  The Commissonaires Union may not have all of the answers but as situations present themselves, we will try to address them as quickly as possible.

After having recently negotiated a new contract for unionized employees containing significant wage increases and improved working conditions, PSAC DCL 20500, the Commissionaires Union of BC, is seeking to reach out to as many Commissionaires as possible on Vancouver Island.

PSAC is happy to announce that a new collective agreement has been ratified by the members of Local 20500 who work for the Corps of Commissionaires, Victoria the Islands and Yukon. The new contract, which expires in March 2022, contains significant wage increases over the three-year term, particularly for members at the lower end of the wage scale and for mobile patrol positions.

The Commissionaires bargaining team, comprised of John Davies, David Schinbein, Nancy Sermons and Erna Post are pleased to announce that a tentative agreement for members working at the Corps of Commissionaires, Victoria the Islands and Yukon has been achieved. The bargaining team last met with the employer on November 4 and worked hard alongside a mediator to reach a fair tentative agreement, which the team is recommending that the membership vote in favour of.

The Local 20500 bargaining team, representing 400 PSAC members employed by the Commissionaires Victoria, the Islands and Yukon, met with the employer and a government appointed mediator on October 11 and 18 in an attempt to reach an agreement.

The Local 20500 bargaining team, representing 400 PSAC members employed by the Commissionaires Victoria, the Islands and Yukon, met with the employer the week of August 25 and again the week of September 2 in Victoria. The team was pleased to see that there was a distinct change in tone and in the approach to bargaining, largely due to the fact that the employer made adjustments to their team since the last meeting in July.

The bargaining team representing approximately 400 members of PSAC DCL 20500, the Commissionaires Union, met with employer in Victoria for the full week of May 27. Normally bargaining begins with an exchange of preliminary proposals that are non-monetary. Once these proposals discussed in detail, the two parties move to monetary items like wages, shift premiums, the duration of the agreement, etc.

Activists representing PSAC’s Directly Chartered Locals (DCLs) gathered in Montreal from November 2 - 4 to discuss strategies to build membership strength and win better working conditions for their members.  Directly Chartered Locals have been part of the PSAC for more than 20 years.  Over 30,000 members are represented by these locals.
