Human Rights

The PSAC BC Region has three Human Rights Committees who meet regularly to in person and via conference call to discuss issues and plan events relating to PSAC's Indigenous, PWD, GLBTQ2+, and Racially Visible members.

The BC Region also has four Regional Council members who represent equity-seeking groups. They are responsible for PSAC members within their constituencies and speak for them at the Council, they seek to promote the activism of PSAC members within these constituencies, and they ensure and promote representation for their constituencies throughout our Union.

PSAC joins the rest of Canada this February in recognizing and celebrating Black history, as well as the important contributions women and men from Black communities have made to our country. We also encourage members to learn about, organize or participate in events in their workplaces and communities that raise the awareness of Black History Month.

PSAC joins the rest of Canada this February in recognizing and celebrating Black history, as well as the important contributions women and men from Black communities have made to our country. The Canadian government recently announced that it will honour Canadian civil rights activist, Viola Desmond, by featuring her on the new ten dollar bill. In 1946, Ms. Desmond challenged racial segregation at a movie theatre in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. While this is something to celebrate, we still need to address the on-going racism Black people in Canada still face today

To: PSAC National Aboriginal Peoples Circle members in BC In order to maximize participation of our Aboriginal membership at the Sacred Water Ceremony in Victoria, BC on December 10, 2016 the National Aboriginal Peoples Circle has provided limited funding to assist with travel costs. Aboriginal members who have self identified and are in good standing with PSAC may be approved to claim up to $75.00 dollars per member for such minor costs as mileage, local transit or ferry.
