Human Rights

The PSAC BC Region has three Human Rights Committees who meet regularly to in person and via conference call to discuss issues and plan events relating to PSAC's Indigenous, PWD, GLBTQ2+, and Racially Visible members.

The BC Region also has four Regional Council members who represent equity-seeking groups. They are responsible for PSAC members within their constituencies and speak for them at the Council, they seek to promote the activism of PSAC members within these constituencies, and they ensure and promote representation for their constituencies throughout our Union.

PSAC members help develop new guide to support trans employees

Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) has introduced a new guide to support trans employees. The new guidelines, which were developed in consultation with PSAC and other unions, are the first of their kind in the federal government. “PSAC welcomes this groundbreaking document and we hope to see a government-wide policy soon,” said Robyn Benson, PSAC National President.

We all must stand against racism and hatred

Friends, As I watch the recent events in Charlottesville and other American cities unfold, I am saddened and disgusted by the rise of openly racist, hateful, sentiment and action in the United States. Bigoted beliefs like those have no place in the society that we as union members – and as human beings – believe in and work hard to build. Closer to home, it’s important to acknowledge that racism and white supremacy is not just limited to the United States.

National Aboriginal Day

Sisters, Brothers, and Friends, June 21 is the day set aside as the day to celebrate the Indigenous peoples of Canada. This year, 2017, marks the country’s 150th birthday. The birthday celebration conversation has non-Indigenous celebrants voicing pride in good fortune gained through hard work. This Indigenous non-celebrant voices sorrow that generations of my ancestors have been brutalized for 150 years by this country’s laws. Today. Still.
International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia
