December 6th - National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women

The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, also known informally as White Ribbon Day, is a day commemorated in Canada each December 6, the anniversary of the 1989 École Polytechnique massacre, in which armed student Marc Lépine murdered fourteen women and injured ten others in the name of "fighting feminism". The commemoration date was established by the Parliament of Canada in 1991.[1] The legislation was introduced in the House of Commons as a private member's bill by Dawn Black, Member of Parliament for New Westminster-Burnaby, British Columbia, and received all-party support.

Community groups, including PSAC Regional Womens Committees are scheduling vigils and memorials in communities around the province - here are some details.

Prince George - Rally Protesting Poverty & Violence Against Women - December 5th, noon to 2PM at Courthouse Square (please bring blankets or winter items to donate to the less fortunate - details in the poster attached below)

Abbotsford - Awareness raising event on December 5th, 1 to 4PM at Mill Lake Park on Bevan Ave (details in the poster attached below)

Lower mainland - Vigil on December 6th, 4PM to 6PM at Holland Park on King George Highway, Surrey (details in the poster attached below). Please bring an item to donate to local women's organizations.

Victoria - Vigil on December 6th, 5PM to 6PM at Holland Park on Dallas Road (more informatino in the letter attached below). Please bring an item to donate to local women's organizations.
