The PSAC is pleased to offer … UNIONS WORK FOR WOMEN, a course for active women members

October 25-28, 2018 - Victoria, BC

Course hours (approximately):Thursday, Oct 25th 8:30 a.m. to Sunday, Oct 28th 4:30 p.m. (including some evening activities) and there is pre-course reading

This course is for PSAC women members …

… Sisters who are:

• active in their union and/or community;
• active on specific issues that matter to them;

… including Sisters from:

• equity seeking groups (pride, persons with disabilities, Indigenous persons, racially visible persons) and young workers;
• different “catchment” areas;
• rural or urban places;
• different employer groups; and
• different PSAC structures

Applicants must be PSAC members in good standing who have self-identified as women and who have completed a Talking Union Basics (TUB) or Introduction to the Union for Indigenous Members (formerly NAPC) courses or equivalent.

This course will challenge ideas, support women working together, and encourage strategic actions that will make positive change. The goal of this course is to build a better union, better workplaces and a better society by encouraging and supporting active PSAC women in their struggle for fairness, equality and social justice. By the end of the course, participants will:

Know:

• about the herstory and current work of the labour and social justice movements;
• about the fragility of the movements’ gains, especially in the current economic and political context;

Feel:

• part of a movement for change, for equality and for social justice;
• increased confidence in their skills and knowledge;

Be Able To:

• work strategically with other activists;
• take on a leadership role in the PSAC, in their workplaces and in their communities.

The PSAC will provide travel, accommodation, meal and incidental allowances, loss of salary, and reimbursement of family care costs, in accordance with the PSAC Travel and Family Care policies.  Please note that this is a region-wide in-residence course so hotel accommodation will be provided for all participants including those living in the Victoria area.

The PSAC Harassment and Scent-Free Policies apply for the duration of this course.

There will be evening work, pre-course reading and participants must attend all sessions.

PSAC members interested in this course are asked to apply online by 11 p.m. on Sunday, September 9, 2018. No late applications will be accepted.

All applicants will be contacted by September 28, 2018 to advise if they have been accepted as a participant on the course.  Details about travel, accommodation, expenses, etc. will be sent to women selected as course participants by October 5, 2018.
