A possible labour disruption could cause delays for travelers arriving or departing from Vancouver airport in the near future, as negotiations between the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC)/Union of Canadian Transportation Employees (UCTE) Local 20221, representing two bargaining units at the airport, and their employers has slowed down.

Approximately 70 members of Public Service Alliance of Canada who fuel planes at Vancouver International Airport have voted overwhelmingly to engage in strike action at YVR, should it be necessary.“Overwhelmingly is actually an understatement,” said Bob Jackson, Regional Executive Vice-President for BC, “Our members gave PSAC a 100% strike mandate.”

On Wednesday June 5th the Public Interest Commission released its recommendation concerning our negotiations with CBSA/Treasury Board.  Early the morning of Friday the 7th the FB Bargaining Team issued a statement reiterating that the union is ready to negotiate.  Later that same day the PSAC was notified that, at CBSA and Treasury Board's request, the government is forcing a vote of the employer's recent-most final offer, to be administered by the Labour Board.

On June 5th, Conservative MP Blaine Calkins for Wetaskiwin (Alberta) introduced Bill C-525, an Act to change the certification and revocation sections of the Canada Labour Code, the Public Service Labour Relations Act and the Parliamentary Employees Staff Relations Act.
