Earlier today, the Honourable Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Public Services and Procurement and Accessibility, and the Honourable Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of National Defence and Member of Parliament for Vancouver South, announced the removal of Harry Stevens’ name from a federal public building in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The PSAC BC Recognition Awards are presented to members who have provided exemplary service or have been role models and mentors for our members. The objective is to recognize PSAC members in British Columbia for their commitment to the labour movement and to work that benefits PSAC members or their community. The recipients of the awards will be chosen each year at the BC Regional Council meeting that is scheduled for the fall, generally in mid-September.

PSAC BC, along with the BC Federation of Labour and many of its affiliates, is helping sponsor the BC Lions Be More Than A Bystander campaign for the fourth year in a row.

Accessing feminine hygiene products is challenging for low income and homeless women. Food, shelter, and clothing take precedence, leaving women with few options to deal with their periods with dignity. As a result, women often have to resort to stealing feminine hygiene products, or utilizing socks or toilet paper in lieu of sanitary pads or tampons, which leaves them more susceptible to infection.

The Public Service Alliance of Canada BC Regional Council has voted to endorse Sharon Gregson and Stephen Von Sychowski in the upcoming election for Vancity Board of Directors. “Stephen and Sharon have worked closely with PSAC in past and I know they both share our union’s progressive values and community-minded spirit.” says Jamey Mills, PSAC BC Regional Executive Vice President. “As a Vancity member, I look forward to voting for them when the election takes place in April, and I encourage PSAC members who belong to Vancity to do the same.”
