The government’s National Public Service Week is June 14-20, 2015. The national week is supposed to recognize the importance of federal public service employees and celebrate their service to Canadians. Meanwhile, this government is gutting public services and trampling on our rights.

Irene Lanzinger, President of the BC Federation of Labour, recently wrote letters to Stephen Harper and Tony Clement on behalf of the Federation and the 500,000 union members in BC.

RE: Call to re-open Coast Guard Stations - We are calling on the government to immediately re-open the Coast Guard bases and the communication centres and invest in marine safety and environment protection. The public supports a quality, public coast guard system that can prevent and respond to marine hazards quickly.

Members of the Customs and Immigration Union, the Component Union of the Public Service Alliance of Canada that represents over 1,600 workers at the Canadian Border Services Agency in BC, are travelling from locations across the Lower Mainland and Southern Interior to leaflet and rally against Bill C-59 on Thursday, June 4 at 10 AM at Deltaport.

PSAC/CIU members working at CBSA are holding actions across Canada on June 4, calling on the government to respect the constitutional rights of federal employees.

PSAC members in BC have been calling and emailing their MPs to let them know how they feel about Bill C-59 and telling them they expect the government to respect collective bargaining rights. Here's a sample of what members are saying.

Our bargaining team met with the Agency on May 26, 27 and 28. During this session, our team introduced new language that proposes the formation and funding of a new Joint National Child Care Committee comprised of equal representation from PSAC and the Agency.
