The Harper government has been slashing jobs and lowering working standards in the public sector for several years: 20,000 jobs lost in just three years in the Public Service. And now, at least 6,000 postal worker jobs will be eliminated.

The CLC Convention is being held from May 5-9, 2014 at the Palais des congrès in Montréal.  As in previous years, the PSAC will be fully funding up to ten delegates to represent PSAC’s five equity groups:  women, Aboriginal peoples, racially visible peoples, persons with disabilities and members of the LGBT communities.

The Vancouver Regional Women’s Committee has compiled some fantastic information to help PSAC Locals host events for International Women’s Day, check out the links below.

PSAC members in BC are actively involved with the work of Metro Vancouver Alliance, a broad based alliance of community groups, labour, faith and educational institutions, all working together for the common good.

MVA was founded in 2009 and is comprised of almost 40 affiliated organizations, representing 200,000 people in the Greater Vancouver area. Members of MVA come from all walks of life: union locals, faith congregations, youth groups, neighborhood houses, co-ops, academic departments and community non-profits.

After two years of negotiations, long hours at the bargaining table on February 5 and 6 finally resulted in a tentative agreement with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

Bill C-21, also known as the Red Tape Reductions Act was introduced into Parliament recently. The Act seeks to reduce regulatory compliance on businesses by requiring the government to remove one regulation for every new one added.

Instead of strengthening protections, this Act is clearly moving in the opposite direction.

Consultations started on Bill C-21 a few years ago through the partisan "Red Tape Reduction Commission," composed of Conservative members of Parliament, business executives and lobbyists.
