The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women commemorates the 14 women killed at the École Polytechnique in Montreal in 1989. On December 6th, people across the country remember and mourn this most extreme example of violence against women.

Per section 9 of the PSAC BC Regional Bylaws, we will be holding an election for a delegate to represent Directly Chartered Locals and Separate Employer Units (who are not entitled to an automatic delegate) at the upcoming PSAC BC Regional Convention.

CFIA bargaining got off to a rocky start this week, with the Employer bargaining team flatly rejecting almost every single recommendation made by the Public Interest Commission.

In the first session of negotiations since the PIC released its report last July, CFIA gave a mind-numbing presentation on why it could not agree to even the most modest of the PIC’s recommendations. 

“This is more than disappointing,” said Bob Kingston, President of Agriculture Union.

To:     PSAC members who have self-ID as being in an equity-seeking group, PSAC members thirty years of age and younger.

Per section 9 of the PSAC BC Regional Bylaws, we will be holding an election for delegates to represent equity-seeking groups (Members with a Disability, Aboriginal, Racially Visible, and GLBT) and Young Workers at the upcoming PSAC BC Regional Convention.

It might seem like ancient history, but it wasn’t long ago that Canadian governments knew how to balance their books — and then some. The collective operating surplus of Canadian governments in 2007 equalled almost $40 billion. Teachers, nurses, and other public servants did their jobs. Tax revenues were more than sufficient to pay for their valuable work (in fact, average tax rates were falling, not rising).
