Friends,

Both regionally and nationally, PSAC believes that a proportional voting system will be good for our members – and all Canadians – as it will result in more fairness and democracy when we elect our governments.

Unlike the winner take all system, proportional representation gives equal value to every vote. We believe this leads to better government accountability, which is something PSAC has long advocated for.

Our Bargaining Conference was held last October (21,22) in Vancouver.  Delegates to the conference reviewed over eighty proposals and a final package of proposals was adopted and prioritized by the delegates in attendance.

The following bargaining team and alternates were also elected at the conference.

Bargaining team:  Joanne Hay Corinne Holzworth and Jen Horsley. Alternate team members are: Kathy Horst, Karen Hirst, Lori Bradbeer

Bargaining was held in Vancouver March 22 and 23. PSAC and Purolator exchanged proposals and held preliminary discussions.

PSAC and our members are frustrated with the government’s failure to follow through on its commitment to delay recoveries of overpayments and emergency pay until federal public service workers have had all their pay problems resolved.

In 1966, the United Nations proclaimed March 21 as the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

This year, PSAC calls on the Liberal government to address the systemic causes of racism and racial discrimination.

Now that tax filing season is in full swing, PSAC wants to remind its members in the federal public service about some important information regarding Phoenix-related tax implications.
