Approximately 30 workers at Victoria International Airport have a new collective agreement. Members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) / Union of Canadian Transportation Employees (UCTE) Local 20209 working at the airport voted Friday to ratify a tentative agreement reached last week. Highlights of the four-year contract, which expires in March 2020, include fair wage increases, an increase in standby pay and meal allowances, improvements to the benefits package, and the inclusion of the firefighters group in the contract language around shift premiums.

"We urgently need to see a new approach from this government. Hunter Tootoo, the Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, officially announced today that the Kitsilano Coast Guard Station in Vancouver would be re-opened. “PSAC is happy to see the government listened to British Columbians and officially announced Kits Station’s reopening today,” said Bob Jackson, Public Service Alliance of Canada Regional Executive Vice-President for BC.

Victoria - The Public Service Alliance of Canada Victoria Regional Women’s Committee is sponsoring a candlelight vigil at Holland Park in Victoria on December 6th, the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Canada. The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women is a day commemorated in Canada each December 6th, the anniversary of the 1989 École Polytechnique massacre, in which armed student Marc Lépine murdered fourteen women and injured ten others in the name of "fighting feminism".

Vancouver - Members of the three largest unions in the federal government, the Public Service Alliance of Canada; the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada; and Canadian Association of Professional Employees, will gather to rally on Thursday, September 17th, 12PM at Library Square in Vancouver. Federal government workers are rallying together to raise awareness about the impact of drastic cuts to public services, and to encourage Canadians to think about this before they cast their votes in the next federal election.
