PSAC and our members are frustrated with the government’s failure to follow through on its commitment to delay recoveries of overpayments and emergency pay until federal public service workers have had all their pay problems resolved.

On Thursday, March 15th, we received the Public Interest Commission (PIC) recommendation concerning our contract dispute with Treasury Board/CBSA. The PIC recommendation is non-binding. It is intended to guide the parties in negotiations and help provide an avenue for the parties to make progress towards an agreement but neither party is obligated to follow the recommendations of the decision.

In response to pressure from PSAC, the federal government has finally agreed to halt recoveries of overpayments, emergency salary advances (ESA) and priority payments until employees’ pay files have been cleared of all outstanding transactions.

CIU/PSAC members rallied near the PAC Highway border crossing on February 14, calling on the government to show Border Services personnel some love, treat them as law enforcement, and give them a fair contract. These men and women have been without a contract for over three and a half years – they protect Canadians every day, and deserve fair treatment.

As the second anniversary of the launch of the Phoenix pay system approaches, 17 unions representing over 225,000 federal public service workers have sent a joint letter of demands to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The unions are asking the Prime Minister to deliver a plan to work with federal government employees to rebuild a payroll system that will pay them accurately and on time – every time.

The Federal Public Service Labour Relations and Employment Board has declared that the federal government has violated its obligations under the law by failing to meet the implementation deadline for the PA, SV, TC and EB collective agreements.
