The latest update on Phoenix, shows a large remaining backlog of cases. Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) provided the latest information on the public service pay system in a media teleconference on June 2.
“We are not surprised,” said Robyn Benson, PSAC National President. “It’s been almost 18 months since the government launched Phoenix and it feels like we are nowhere near the end of this mess.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 29, 2017 (Ottawa, ON) - The union representing workers who serve on the Canadian Coast Guard’s dive team is warning that cutbacks to these services could have a dramatic and dangerous impact on the travelling public. They note that while the number of employees involved may be small, the services they provide are vital and life-saving.

PSAC has been pushing the government to sign four collective agreements by the end of May, but the employer is insisting they won’t be ready until mid-June at the earliest. These agreements, covering over 100,000 workers, were ratified by the membership in votes that concluded in April.

Recently, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has announced a planned change to its part-time policy. PSAC-CIU has made clear that it is opposed to such changes. At the bargaining table, our position is to improve job and income security for PSAC-CIU members at CBSA. An increase in part-time employment runs contrary to this objective.
