Kamloops – Federal public service workers and allies will gather outside Cathy McLeod's office at a rally calling on the federal government to take the measures necessary to ensure public service workers are paid correctly and on time. “Federal government workers in Kamloops worry constantly about whether or not they will receive a correct pay cheque, or one at all.” says Eddy Bourque, National President of the Canada Employment and Immigration Union. “We are calling on the government to fix their payroll system once and for all.”

PSAC has negotiated a Memorandum of Understanding with Treasury Board to address recruitment and retention of compensation advisors. The aim is to ensure the government has enough staff resources to deal with the many problems related to the Phoenix pay system.

In negotiations, our PSAC/CIU bargaining team for the FB group has made proposals to Treasury Board and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) concerning shift work, scheduling and part-time work. 

Members whose hours of work were changed in 2014 during bargaining with Treasury Board have won back pay and benefits after the union filed a complaint. The Federal Public Service Labour Relations Act, like other labour laws in Canada, contains a provision that freezes the terms and conditions contained in collective agreements on the day that notice to bargain a new agreement is given. The freeze continues until a new agreement is either negotiated or awarded by an arbitrator, or until a strike takes place.

The Federal Court of Appeal has ruled in favour of the right of adjudicators to rule on cases of termination resulting from revocation of reliability status.

The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and its component, the Union of National Defence Employees (UNDE), have written to Prime Minister Trudeau demanding the government revisit its decision to contract out maintenance and other related services in new multi-billion-dollar shipbuilding plans.
