Hello fellow PSAC members, I met with Randall Garrison, Member of Parliament for Esquimalt—Saanich—Sooke, on January 16th. Randall has committed to assisting PSAC members in his riding to the best of his abilities on the Phoenix issue. He has committed to working with me as the PSAC Vancouver Island Coordinator. In order to help raise public awareness and support, Randall would like to have examples of the Phoenix pay issues that his constituents have been experiencing.

PSAC has scheduled training for pay advocates, normally local officers or stewards, that have been assisting members with Phoenix issues. This training will provide information and training on tools specifically for assisting those with pay issues.  It will also provide information on our key objectives in pressuring the government to address and resolve Phoenix.  Objectives of the 1-day course include

PSAC members rallied at Harbour Centre in Vancouver on December 13 2017, calling on the government to take the measures necessary to ensure workers are paid correctly and on time. Members sang a few Christmas Carols (Jingle bells, Phoenix smells!) and heard from members who have been directly affected by problems with the pay system.

Members of the Customs and Immigration Union and the Public Service Alliance of Canada demonstrated at the Peace Arch border crossing in support of ongoing national bargaining efforts toward a new collective agreement for members of the FB group on Thursday December 14.

This is a call out to PSAC equity activists (Aboriginal Peoples, Racialized Workers, Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Trans Members, and Members with Disabilities), Regional Women's Committee members, and Young worker activists (35 or younger) to participate in the upcoming Treasury Board Units Bargaining Conferences.

Vancouver – On December 13, the last government pay day before Christmas, federal public service workers in Vancouver are rallying to raise awareness about the Phoenix pay system and to call on the government to take the measures necessary to ensure they are paid correctly and on time. Date: Wednesday, December 13, 2017 Time: 12PM – 1PM Location: Harbour Centre, 555 West Hastings, Vancouver The Phoenix payroll system used by the federal government has been riddled with problems since it was rolled out in early 2016.

Vancouver – Members of the Customs and Immigration Union (CIU) and the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) will be demonstrating in support of ongoing national bargaining efforts toward a new collective agreement for members of the FB group (Border Services) on Thursday December 14, 2017, starting at 11AM, at the Peace Arch border crossing.

Our Team and Employer made final arguments on November 23, 2017. As per the Public Service Labour Relations Act, our FB Bargaining Team filed for conciliation earlier this year when it became clear that the employer was not prepared to seriously address our issues, including parity with other law enforcement agencies and matters related to hours of work such as protections for compressed work weeks, VSSA’s and telework.
