The federal government said today it will eliminate the existing sick leave provisions for federal public service workers, whether or not an agreement is reached at the bargaining table. “The government is putting a time limit on the collective bargaining process and trying to pre-determine the outcome of bargaining, ” said Robyn Benson, PSAC National President. “That’s simply unacceptable. ”

In the wake of the toxic fuel spill in Vancouver harbor, the Public Service Alliance of Canada is calling on the government to immediately re-open Kitsilano Coast Guard Station and invest in marine safety and environmental protection.

At the March 2015 meeting of the National Board of Directors, we once again called for a boycott of NPSW. Tony Clement and the Conservative government are at the Treasury Board, Parks and CFIA bargaining tables intent on dismantling our sick leave and benefits and at CRA the employer refuses to bargain meaningfully.

PSAC is very pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with Treasury Board on the establishment of a joint task force on mental health. PSAC tabled the proposal in January to ensure a more proactive approach to improving mental health. Following negotiations this week with Treasury Board, the parties agreed on the makeup, responsibilities and timelines for the task force on mental health.

What you need to know about Treasury Board’s new process The Treasury Board’s new performance management policy went into effect on April 1, 2014. There is now a detailed process in place to conduct performance assessments. These assessments can have a significant impact on your employment and you need to know your rights and obligations during each stage of the process. 

On March 9th, just over 1,300 PSAC members in our Treasury Board units in BC participated in a live telephone town hall meeting with Robyn Benson, PSAC National President, Bob Jackson, PSAC BC's Regional Executive Vice-President, and Seth Sazant, Lead Negotiator at the TC Table. Robyn, Bob and Seth provided an update on bargaining with our Treasury Board units, talked about solidarity events, political action and the upcoming election, and took questions from PSAC members. A recent survey of Service Canada’s front line workers in Quebec paints a troubling picture of frustrated clients and poor morale for workers due to drastic changes to the Employment Insurance (EI) program. The survey was conducted by the Quebec region of the Canada Employment and Immigration Union (CEIU), a component of PSAC.
