Our union, along with concerned Canadians in communities across the country, has been working hard to save public services and protect jobs. We are all affected by cuts to services, and we must all take action to defend the public services PSAC members provide to Canadians.

The Public Service Alliance of Canada extends its solidarity to Albertans, including PSAC members who have suffered losses during the flooding in Southern Alberta.  During a visit to Calgary last weekend, I witnessed the impact of the floods on our members, their families and their communities. This is one of the most serious disasters to hit Canada in many years and PSAC is determined to work with all of our members and other labour organizations to coordinate a response.

The Senate has voted to amend Bill C-377, making major changes to a deeply flawed piece of legislation that singles out unions to provide detailed and intrusive reports to the Canada Revenue Agency. The amended Bill will now go back to the House of Commons in the fall.

Veterans Affairs has announced more jobs cuts today, which will again reduce services to veterans who have already felt the impact of severe cuts to the department since the 2012 budget.

via the BC Federation of LabourSisters and Brothers,On May 13, 2013 management at the Richmond IKEA locked out the nearly 350 members of Teamsters Local 213 who work at that location. Ikea is attempting to force these workers into a number of concessions, including a tiered wage system which will see some existing employees getting reduced wages and benefits.

PSAC's Human Rights/Programs Section is gathering data and stories about how federal government cuts and Work Force Adjustment has impacted workers with disabilities. Impacts could include the loss of, or changes to, an existing accommodation, being declared surplus, or not being given a reasonable guaranteed job offer.We are asking PSAC members with any knowledge - personal or otherwise - regarding workers with disabilities being affected by the cut backs and WFA notices to let us know.
