Political Action

Our union, along with concerned Canadians in communities across the country, has been working hard to save public services and protect jobs. We are all affected by cuts to services, and we must all take action to defend the public services PSAC members provide to Canadians.

This section contains news and information about PSAC's political action program in British Columbia. Visit the national website for background and more information on our campaigns.

With National Public Service Week just around the corner I would like to remind members in BC of the boycott that is in place. I have recently received information that some of our members are involved in organizing events with the employer and are planning to attend functions.

The following verse was written by Sherry Hunt, a PSAC member of Agriculture Local 30048 in Lethbridge. National Public Service Week will be held from June 9 to 15, 2013.  This event marks the importance of federal public service employees and recognizes their service to Canadian society.  We find it an insult to our members and to our union that the employer promotes this event while the government of Canada continues its assault on federal public services and public service delivery.  Our members have received and continue to receive affected/surplus notices, and are being offered a piece of cake and a cup of coffee to wash it down.

Unions in North America adopted May 1st in the late 1800s as a day to commemorate the struggle of working people to win the eight hour day.And when we say ‘struggle' we mean struggle. Things blew up. People were killed. The police lied. Workers were jailed and executed. Back then that was how far the rich and powerful were willing to go to protect their access to cheap and pliable labour, for however long they wanted it, each and every working day.
