As a result of the settlement of a human rights complaint presented by a PSAC member and supported by PSAC, the Treasury Board has issued a bulletin “to ensure that there is no confusion regarding the approach and the standard for addressing leave without pay due to illness or injury”.

PSAC’s website now helps members connect with their local union representative. Find your local union contact and your collective agreement By choosing their employer, their job classification and the closest city to where they live, PSAC member can get phone and web contact information for their component or local as well as a link to their collective agreement.  The system is aimed at getting PSAC members answers to their questions about their job faster.

PSAC is opposed to the government’s new security screening policy — which includes credit checks and fingerprinting of public service employees — and will be challenging it. We are currently gathering evidence to file a court challenge and a privacy complaint with the Privacy Commissioner’s office. “We are concerned that these checks will be an unwarranted gross violation of personal privacy and they could put people's livelihoods in jeopardy without cause. We are also fearful that the policy could be applied in an arbitrary way," said PSAC President Robyn Benson.

The 2014 Public Service Employee Survey released yesterday continues to demonstrate the negative impact of public service cuts. The survey results also raise major concerns about the continuing problems of harassment and poor mental health in the public service. Despite these problems, most public service workers are committed to doing a good job.

The federal government tabled its “go-to-work-sick” proposal for the federal public service yesterday. Its plan would gut your sick leave provisions. If implemented, workers will be forced to choose between going to work sick or losing pay for basic necessities.
