Updates

Last week (May 13-17) your bargaining team held some productive discussions negotiating with Purolator Inc. For the majority of the week, the parties addressed non-monetary issues.

We came to an agreement on a number of issues, some related to:

  • site harmonization
  • layoffs and recall

We also made some general housekeeping changes that will make the collective agreement easier to understand.

The following is re-posted from Headwinds, a blog written by the PSAC Alliance Executive Committee - the National President, National Executive Vice-President and seven Regional Executive Vice-Presidents. Read more of their thoughts on the issues that affect PSAC members and all Canadians at aec-cea.ca and watch for more from Bob - we plan to make this a regular feature here at the regional website.

"Never a dull moment in BC politics."

May 17 is the International Day against Homophobia. The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) stands in solidarity with the lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans communities.

Respect in the workplace is essential. PSAC is there to support our members who face the hostility, homophobia or transphobia that can sometimes occur in the workplace. We are also engaged in bargaining collective agreements that meet the particular needs of our GLBT members. And we continue to work to better protect the human rights of transgendered people.

The following verse was written by Sherry Hunt, a PSAC member of Agriculture Local 30048 in Lethbridge. After reading about the latest cuts to government––with another huge hit to Agriculture in the Prairies––Hunt looked back at the past two years of a Harper majority and how our country has changed.

National Public Service Week will be held from June 9 to 15, 2013.  This event marks the importance of federal public service employees and recognizes their service to Canadian society.  We find it an insult to our members and to our union that the employer promotes this event while the government of Canada continues its assault on federal public services and public service delivery.  Our members have received and continue to receive affected/surplus notices, and are being offered a piece of cake and a cup of coffee to wash it down.

Monday, May 13th was the first day for your Bargaining Team to be at the negotiation table with Purolator Inc. We have formally exchanged bargaining proposals and the hard work continues through further discussions with the employer over the coming week.
